Another type of part that can be used when you simply want to repeat musical strcuture is the repeater part. A repeater part simply repeats a set number of previous bars on the timeline. For example in the below example the repeat part in bar 3 is set to repeat bars 1 & 2 again.
To set this up you would add a 'repeater' part on timeline after the two parts already on the timeline.
The repeater part should then appear
By default the repeater part will not do anything. By double clicking on the repeater part a popup menu will appear. You can use the sliders to configure what will be repeated, note this will only repeat content on the same track.
After hitting ok you will need to hit render on the arrange view for the effect to take place.
If you then view the score you will see that the effect has been computed.
The scratchpad in IGME allows you to compose parts wihtout needing to place them on the timeline. The scratchpad can also be used to cache parts already on the timline and remove them until they are needed later. It is perfect for trying out ideas.
To view the scratchpad you will need to select it from the tab view on the right hand side of the arrange view.
To add a part to the scratchpad simply press the + button. You can only add standard or computer parts to the scratchpad. To edit simply double click on the part.
To copy from the scratchpad to the timeline simply right click on the part and select copy. Then either select a part on the timeline and hit paste, or hit add and paste from part
The same mechanisim is used to copy a part from the timeline to the scratchpad.
When making iterations it is easy to loose track of your favorite versions. Inside the change tracker you can toggle the star icon to mark them.
Parts can be moved around on the timeline by dragging them while holding shift
There are often times when will you want to convert between different part types. For example after generating an iteration inside a part, you may wish to make final edits to the result.
To do this hit the "Result -> Seed" button at the bottom of the editor
The promot will show, click continue.
After this process the seed will not contain the result so that you can make further edits.
Converting computer, reference and iterator parts
Converting a computer part into a human part allows you to make edits the genertive output. To do this right click on the part on the timeline and select: "Convert to human part".
This process is destructive and the parameters used to configure the original genertive effect are lost. Consider copying the part to the timeline before doing the coversion.
This process can be used to convert the output of iterators and reference parts back into standard parts for further editing.
